HOW TO GET RIDE OF WATER RETENTION ?

Did you know that up to 70 percent of the human body consists of water ? It is present on both the inside and outside of the cells.

Many causes can trigger water retention, but I would like to put something out here !

I had a discussion with a client and she told me she couldn’t suffer from water retention on the picture she sent me because it was in the morning and she was fasting the day before… (She have a past of anorexia)

Let’s talk about low calories diet :

We all know that overweight people are more likely to suffer from water retention.

But overweight people tend to go on a low-calorie diet.

A low-calorie diet will unfortunately not get rid of water retention – it can actually make it worse, especially if you eat less than 1,200 Calories a day for months or years (what happen for anorexic)

This is because you may not have enough protein in your blood to draw excess water out of your tissues. This type of water retention can cause generalized puffiness and a swollen tummy.

Humans require a certain level of proteins for effective water balance. An individual with severe calorie deficiency have harder time to get the water from the tissue spaces back into the capillaries.

This cause the enlarged abdomen of someone who is starving.

Causes of water retentions :

  • Malnutrition and bad diet: A poor diet low in calories and nutrients.

  • Salt, or sodium: Sodium-rich foods may cause water retention.

  • Allergies

  • Hormonal imbalance: especially people with disorder of the thyroid gland

  • Wastes and Toxins : metabolic wastes and toxins (such as pesticides) which the body cannot easily release tend to be stored in what you called “cellulite”

  • Over exercising or the opposite, not enough moving : this can cause a type of water retention known as lymphedema, it is difficult for your lymphatic system to drain excess fluid out of your tissues.

Prevention tips

There are a few ways to manage water retention through the diet.

These include:

  • reducing the intake of sodium, or salt

  • consuming more magnesium from different sources, such as beans, nuts, whole grains, and leafy greens (You can also supplement with magnesium, it will not only be beneficial if you are suffering from water retention but for so many other benefits, the one I’m using is this one, and you can save money with my code AWAYTOHEALTHY)

  • Drink more water

  • Consumming maca : it stimulate the hypothalamus and pituitary gland to better balance the entire endocrine system. I’m using the one from vivolife

  • Having an healthy weight : weight loss or weight gain, you need to be at a healthy state for your body to function properly

  • Regular exercise

But overall, to get ride of bloating, the thing is to follow a balance healthy lifestyle. Too much of everything is not good.

I encourage you to see my meal plan to have an understanding on how a perfect balanced day of eating looks like.

Too much of any macronutrient can cause bloating, water retention & hormonal imbalance. It’s a natural way for your body to protect itself.
